Bradshaw Road over I-95 Bridge Replacement
MdTA replaced Bradshaw Road over I-95 as the kick-off project for the Northbound Extension of the I-95 Express Toll Lanes. The bridge was lengthened and the profile raised slightly to accommodate the future full width of I-95. Local stakeholders including Baltimore County Department of Public Works and Baltimore County Schools were engaged early in the project to obtain concurrence for bridge closure during construction and a detour utilizing nearby Raphel Road over I-95. With a detour, staged construction was not required which reduced construction costs. With an adjacent 108” prestressed concrete pipe water line owned by the City of Baltimore, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works was coordinated with to address their concerns and include monitoring requirements in the contract for a critical infrastructure component. The architectural treatment developed for this project served as a basis for follow on structures on the Northbound Extension of the I-95 Express Toll Lanes. The semi-integral abutments and corrosion resistant reinforcing were a first for MDTA and will reduce maintenance costs over the life of the bridge.
