Carsin’s Run Stream Mitigation

The project was part of MdTA’s I-95 Express Toll Lanes Northbound Extension.  The work included improvements to the mainstem upstream of I-95 and a small tributary originating near Ripken Stadium.  Carsin’s Run crosses I-95 just north of the I-95/MD 22 interchange and is within the Swan Creek watershed. The existing mainstem flows through a concrete channel and portions of the concrete bank and bed revetment had failed. The tributary was actively eroding, both vertically and laterally.  The work to improve the stream and tributary included installation of step-pool crests, riffle grade control, a large imbricated w-weir, woody toe protection and rock sills.
