Six-M Company Mount Carmel Road (MD 137) over I-83 Bridge Replacement
Description: The project consisted of the construction of a two span temporary Mabey Bridge over I-83 to carry Mount Carmel Road motorists during the removal of the structurally deficient existing 4 span steel bridge and construction of a new two span steel bridge. The project also consisted of drainage, roadway, and guardrail improvements.
Owner: Maryland State Highway Administration
Testimonial:
“SHA is finishing the Mt. Carmel Road bridge over I-83 about six months ahead of schedule. Traffic flow is much improved with the center left turn lane, the aesthetics -- including landscaping -- is better, and the extended right turn lane westbound on Mt. Carmel onto I-83 greatly enhances awareness and safety at what was a confusing point.
Thanks to an intricate and carefully choreographed work schedule by SHA, the work got done with a minimal of disruption to residents of this rural community who count on this country road. You guys proved you knew what you are doing when you replaced the Middletown Road bridge but you really showed your chops on the much busier and more visible Mt. Carmel Road bridge. Only thing that could make it better is being under budget.
Kudos for a job well done. Please pass on my congratulations to others involved in the project.”
